ONE of the oldest and most popular attractions at Adventure Island in Southend has re-opened following a major facelift.
The Lighthouse Slip is a traditional, spiral slide which stands 50 feet tall and is more than 70 years old.
After two months of painstaking renovation which cost £100,000, the slide has been returned to its original 1940s appearance.
It was disassembled by specialists before being carefully rebuilt on its original design. The renovation was completed with an all over repaint, using a high-tech system of products that will give the Lighthouse Slip another 30 years protection from the elements.
Adventure Island’s executive chairman, Philip Miller, said: “It is our policy at Adventure Island to continually keep improving our existing attractions and rides to ensure that all of our equipment is always in a first class condition.
“The Lighthouse Slip is undoubtedly one of our most popular attractions and has been enjoyed by all ages for more than 60 years.
“Thanks to this £100,000 refurbishment, visitors to the UK’s Number 1 Free Admission Fun Park can enjoy it for decades to come.”
