ESSEX Police has confirmed they have found a body in the lake at a retirement village on Canvey.
Emergency services were called to Kings Park Village on the island at about 9.15am after residents reported seeing a coat floating on the surface of the water.
Witnesses also claim a mobility scooter was found alongside the lake.
After conducting a search of the lake, police have confirmed they have recovered the body of a local man.
Investigations are now ongoing into the circumstances around the incident although police are not treating the death as suspicious.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “A man has died on Canvey. Police were contacted shortly after 9am on Friday January 31 following reports of a body in the lake near Kings Holiday Park. Officers arrived and found the body of a local man. The death is not being treated a suspicious. A file is now being prepared for her majesty’s coroner ahead of a formal identification procedure and post mortem.”
The Essex Air Ambulance attended the scene but took off without any casualties on board.
A spokesman from the East of England Ambulance, said: “We were called to Kings Park at about 9.15am.
“At the moment we have an ambulance, rapid response team and a hazardous area response team on site.”
