TWO dogs were rescued from after a car fire spread and set alight a house in Basildon.
Firefighters were called to a property in The Upway following reports of a car fire at 12.20am this morning.
The fire then spread to the house causing substantial damage to the kitchen.
Crews rescued a Jack Russell and Staffie from the blaze.
Station Officer Sean Norris, from Basildon Fire Station, said: "A car was set alight on the drive that later spread to the house.
"There were two dogs inside and the homeowners were out at the time.
"The fire caused substantial damage in the kitchen and in the front of the house.
"Police and fire services are investigating."
Firefighters got the blaze under control in 30 minutes.
