EMERGENCY services have been called to Pitsea train station after a man was hit by a train.
The ambulance service was called to the scene shortly after 1pm following reports a man had been hit by a train.
The man was air lifted to hospital and is being treated for head and chest injuries. It is thought the man will be in hospital for a long time.
National Rail say there will be no trains between Pitsea and Stanford-le-Hope until 4pm.
The air ambulance has also been called to the scene.
A statement from National Rail said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident near Pitsea. This means that trains will be unable to run between Pitsea and Stanford-le-Hope until approximately 4pm."
Trains between Southend Central and London Fenchurch Street via Tilbury Town will be diverted via Basildon or run between Stanford-le-Hope and London Fenchurch Street only.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to the Pitsea Hall Lane level crossing on Tuesday, 29 September at 1.13pm to a report of a person struck by a train.
“BTP attended the incident with colleagues from Essex Police.
“Medics from East of England Ambulance Service also attended and a man received treatment for his injuries before being taken to hospital.
“Officers will now work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
A c2c spokesman said that services had resumed by 3pm.
