A woman was threatened and a man assaulted leading to a major police presence in Laindon.
Police were called at around 11.10am this morning, with concerns for the welfare of a woman at a property in Elizabeth Way.
It was reported that four men, who were described as black, had attended the address and threatened a woman and assaulted a man.
Police were also told that they had damaged property inside and then left in what is believed to be a stolen car.
Two men were arrested at around 11.30am, after officers stopped the car, and they remain in police custody.
The victims reported that the group were carrying what were described as swords, but these were not used to harm the victims.
One sword was recovered from the vehicle.
Both the man and woman were quickly safeguarded by officers who attended the scene.
The man has injuries to his face and body, which are neither life-threatening nor life changing.
The woman was not injured.
Two other men believed to have been at the address have not been found.
This isolated incident is being investigated by Basildon CID, and officers are conducting house to house enquiries.
