A brother has been found guilty of attempted murder after a man was repeatedly stabbed in Westcliff.

Curtis Butler, 23, has also been convicted of having an article with a blade or point following the trial at Basildon Crown Court.

His brother Paul Butler, 22, was found not guilty of intimidating witnesses The pair were on trial in connection with a man being repeatedly stabbed in Valkyrie Road, Westcliff, in the early hours of Saturday, October 30, 2021.

This afternoon the jury delivered its verdict on which all the members had agreed.  On Friday, Judge Ian Graham summed up the case for the jury at Basildon Crown Court.

He said: “As the victim got to Valkyrie Road he was attacked by a person wearing a balaclava and a hoodie.

“He was stabbed four times and suffered life-threatening injuries to his body including his heart.

“His lung collapsed and part of his bowel tissue died. He spent time in a critical care unit in hospital."

Both Curtis Butler, of Great Gregorie, Basildon, and Paul Butler, of, Royston Avenue, Southend, had denied the charges against them.
