The police force in Southend has reportedly doubled and funding set aside for CCTV has made the system "one of the best in the region".

Martin Terry, Southend City Council cabinet member for public protection said: “There have been some incidents recently and it’s hugely disappointing that this keeps on occurring despite the doubling of police in Southend and CCTV.

“We have resources in place, but we need to clamp down on people carrying knives.

“It’s a terrible thing in our community and it’s absolutely unacceptable.

“I hope that the people that have been hurt recover well

“This type of thing is not unique to Southend.

“We’ve got one of the best CCTV systems in the region.

“Essex Police is doing all they can to resolve this and I’m sure they will.

“Anyone who’s found with a knife should be treated seriously.

“I want to assure everyone that despite these things happening, Southend is a safe place overall and there are resources in place to ensure this.”

MooMoo Clubrooms Southend have been contacted for comment and have not responded.
