A famous cycle race is set to come to Southend for the first time next month - and the route has been revealed.
More than 100 of the world's leading cyclists will visit Southend on Friday September 8 as it becomes the latest city to host the Tour of Britain cycle race.
The start of stage six - which will be shown live on ITV4 and in more than 150 countries worldwide - is set to take place alongside the Thames Estuary and a stone’s throw away from the historic pier.
This stage of the race will start in the city at 11.45am and finish in Harlow at 3.28pm, which will also welcome the Tour of Britain for the first time.

- Southend, Western Esplanade - 11.45am
- Rochford - 12.09pm
- South Woodham Ferrers - 12.49pm
- Burnham - 1.12pm
- Southminster - 1.17pm
- Ship Road (category three) - 2.23pm
- Ingatestone - 2.34pm
- North Weald Bassett - 3.06pm
- Harlow, Third Avenue - 3.28pm
The Tour of Britain will begin in Greater Manchester on Sunday, September 3, and culminate eight stages later in South Wales, on Sunday, September 10.
