Southend Airport has been teasing a major announcement over the past few days with a "countdown" on its social media pages.
The airport started dropping hints on Saturday, August 19, with the an image of the number three and the caption: "Last year you had three..."
Social media followers immediately started speculating. With the airport offering three easyJet flights to Malaga, Majorca and Faro last year, one Twitter user asked: "(OK, I'll bite) Three what? Destinations from Southend, presumably?"
The next day, the page dropped an image of the number two with the caption: "Recently we gave you two..." and today (August 21) they shared: "One day. One more. 8AM."
Airport bosses are keeping tight-lipped on what they could be announcing, but holidaymakers are hoping for a new destination.
One follower commented: "Hopefully be booking all my Alicante flights tomorrow for 2024."
In recent months, Southend has announced new European routes including Bourgas, Geneva and Paris, alongside the relaunch of its easyJet flights to Amsterdam, Malaga, Mallorca and Faro.
The new flights to the stunning coastal city of Bourgas, in Bulgaria, will start in summer 2024 while easyJet will operate three flights per week to Geneva from Saturday, December 16 this year.
From October 29, passengers will also be able to fly from Southend to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
