A MANHUNT has been launched after a dog walker was sexually assaulted in Shoebury attack earlier this morning.
Essex Police were called to Gunners Park at around 10am today following reports of a woman being assaulted.
The victim was walking through the park with her dog when she was approached by a man.
The man then grabbed her by the arms and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect ran away, and the victim was able to contact police. She is receiving support from our officers.
Essex Police say they are now on the hunt to find the suspect who is described as a white man, around 5’8” tall with short, white thinning hair. He was of a larger build and believed to be in his late 50s.
The suspect was wearing a blue coat/mac.
Tony Cox, leader of Southend Council and councillor responsible for West Shoebury ward, was shocked and disgusted to hear of the incident.
He said: “This is shocking.
“It is concerning wherever and whenever something like this happens.
“No one should be facing sexual assault especially when going and doing a simply daily thing out in a park in broad daylight.
“It is just shocking.
“My thoughts go out to the victim.
“I I just hope someone has information that they can give to Essex Police, and I urge anyone who saw it or who has seen the suspect to contact Essex Police or Crimestoppers immediately.”
Essex Police has urged any witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman added: “We are appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault in Shoebury this morning.
