FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a blaze at glass recycling centre in south Essex.
Last night, at around 11:47pm, two crews from Grays, one from Rayleigh and one from Orsett, attended a glass recycling centre at Tilbury Freeport.
On arrival, firefighters reported that the building was heavily smoke logged.
Crews used breathing apparatus to enter the building and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 3.38am.
Watch manager Dave Hogan said: “The building is a glass recycling centre so it is a big warehouse with lots of different sections inside and a conveyor belt going around.
"This made it very difficult to find where the fire was coming from.
"Crews did a a great job in locating it and worked really hard to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
“As the machinery crushes glass it becomes very hot which is how we believe the fire may have started.”
