Nine fire crews are on the scene of a huge blaze at a recycling centre in Basildon today.
Firefighters from across south Essex are tackling the flames at the site on Burnt Mills Industrial Estate in Archers Fields, Pitsea.
As recycling and plant machinery went up into flames, smoke could be seen billowing from across south Essex. Residents could see the clouds from as far as Canvey.
On arrival, the crews reported around 250 tonnes of the machinery was on fire.
Nine Essex Fire and Rescue crews are currently on scene using an Aerial Ladder Platform to extinguish the fire in sections.
Police are also on the scene blocking the road.
Those living and working nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors shut.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "If you live nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed."
