VISITORS to Southend were taken back in time as swashbuckling pirates and singing sailors docked at the pier for a special event.
The Pirates at the Pier event welcomed the Blackwater Pirates and the Old Time Sailors back to the popular venue.
The groups took pier-goers back to the 19th century with a free “immersive show”.
This included traditional seafaring music including centuries old folk and shanty songs performed at the end of Southend Pier.
The Old Time Sailors and their plethora of traditional and eclectic instruments took people back to the time of "clashing tankards and drunken debauchery".
The band was also joined by the award-winning Blackwater Pirates, who raise money for Essex charities, with this year going towards Havens Hospices.
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support for people of all ages who are living with incurable conditions and their families.
It works closely with health and social care professionals to ensure the care and support give is the best it can possibly be, so they can get the most from life, and make every day count.
The incredible Essex charity will also see funds raised for it at the returning Southend Half Marathon in June.
Pictures from the event at the pier yesterday show the band of pirates enjoying their time at the venue all dressed in classic attire.
After the event, the Blackwater Pirates said the event was “amazing” and thanked all who attended.
A spokesman said: “An amazing day on Southend Pier and Railway with the incredible Old Time Sailors raising money for Havens Hospices.
“Thank you to everyone who came down to see one of the greatest bands you will ever see.”
