A CHILD has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in a “serious incident” at Tarpots.

Emergency services were called to London Road, in Benfleet, just before 8pm yesterday evening.

This was following reports that a child had been hit by a car.

The East of England Ambulance Service has confirmed the child has been taken to Basildon Hospital for treatment.

A spokesman said: “Just before 8pm on Sunday, we received reports that a child had been hit by a car on London Road in Benfleet.

“An ambulance and ambulance officer were sent to the scene. The child was transported to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Essex Police closed the road whilst the emergency services dealt with the incident.

At the time of the incident, Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, warned drivers that the road had been closed.

She said: “There has been a serious incident by the bike shop at Tarpots.

“My thoughts and prayers are with anyone who has been injured.

“The police have closed off the road eastbound so there is currently no access to Benfleet from Sadlers Farm.”

Essex Police has been contacted for comment by the Echo.
