A man in his 30s has sustained serious injuries following a shock attack with a metal pole outside a Tesco Express.
The attack, which happened yesterday at around 3.20pm, saw paramedics treating the man on the green opposite the Tesco Express in Grange Road following the incident which happened in front of passers-by.
A police spokesman said: "We were called to the scene of an assault in Grange Road, Billericay at about 3.20pm Tuesday 11 June.
"Two men were reportedly fighting outside Tesco Express, when one assaulted the other with a metal pole before leaving the scene.
"At the scene we found a man in his 30s had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
"Our investigation is ongoing."
Inspector Daniel Barnes said: "We are sure this was a distressing incident for members of the public to witness, and I'd like to thank those that have already come forward to assist with our enquiries.
"I'd like to reassure people that we be believe this is an isolated incident, and to ask anyone else who saw this incident to get in touch with us."
