EIGHTIES pop star Tracie Young is coming out of retirement to give a one-off performance in Southend.
Tracie, who sang with the Jam and the Style Council, will appear at Maxims Casino on Sunday, March 13.
She has agreed to return to the stage to raise money for charities chosen by Southend mayor Ann Holland.
Tracie got her break in 1982 when she was picked out by the Jam frontman Paul Weller to sing backing vocals on his hit, Beat Surrender.
She later enjoyed success under her own name with a string of songs, including the House That Jack Built and Give it Some Emotion.
She is now better-known as the presenter of the Daytime show on Southend Radio.
The event at Maxims will raise money for the Southend Stroke Club and the Southend Arts Council – the causes singled out for support by Mrs Holland when she became mayor last year.
Also performing will be Josh Dubovie, from Laindon, who represented the UK at last year’s Eurovision Song Contest, plus the Maximum Robbie Williams Tribute and classical guitarist John Summerton.
Mrs Holland said: “I am hugely grateful to Maxims for putting this wonderful night together – and of course a huge thanks to all the fantastic musicians who are giving us their time to entertain us and help raise money for the charity.
“It’s going to be a superb evening with a real taste of Las Vegas glitz and glamour here in Southend.”
The event, which includes a three-course meal, will start at 7pm. Tickets are priced at £27.50 and can be bought by e-mailing StacyMarx@southend.gov.uk or calling 01702 215141.
