FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car fire near Pitsea flyover, this morning.
The blaze, cause unknown, was reported at about 10am before crews from Basildon, Rayleigh and Orsett fought back the flames.
Eyewitness James Kerin, a 31-year-old DJ from Littlebury Green, Basildon, described the heat as "intense."
He said: "I was driving towards the Pitsea flyover when I saw thick black smoke.
"It soon become apparent a car was on fire.
"All the traffic slowed to pass the burning car.
"The heat from the fire was intense.
"As soon as I passed I called the fire brigade."
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire by about 10.20am.
