QUESTIONS are being asked why roadworks on a busy Basildon roundabout have been left unfinished.
Work replacing metal crash barriers around Ashlyns roundabout has been going on for about six months.
There is still a row of cones along a grass verge by the roundabout’s exit to Broadmayne, but taxi driver Ralph Morgan, 66, complained he has not seen any workmen for several weeks.
He said drunken yobs often throw the cones into the middle of the road, on the roundabout, on Friday and Saturday nights, which could cause an accident. Mr Morgan, treasurer of Basildon Hackney Carriage Proprietors’ Association, said: “It’s dangerous.
“It’s an accident waiting to happen and I can’t understand why the workmen haven’t just finished whatever they are doing and taken the cones away.”
Essex County Council spokesman Michael Page, said: Work was started on replacing the crash barriers on Ashlyns Roundabout, however due to previously unforeseen issues with the road surface work had to be halted while new parts were ordered. The area has been made safe in the mean time, and the work will be completed early in the new year.”
