A POST office on Canvey has undergone a major refurbishment bringing the building into the 21st century.

The Canvey Village Post Office, in Craven Avenue, will now open seven days a week after the Post Office splashed out more than £40,000 to update the building.

Families are set to benefit as opening hours at the facility have been extended by 66 hours a week as the post office will now operate seven days a week.

Subpostmaster Vim Odedra said: “The branch looks great and customers love the extended opening hours as they can call in before or after work or at the weekends. That benefits the whole community as this spreads out when people can visit.

“My Post Office is open the longest hours on Canvey. During the Post Office refurbishment I also took the opportunity to make some changes to the rest of my shop including improved lighting.”

The extra hours will include Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.

The branch will also open significantly earlier and close much later every day from 6am to 10pm.

Gary Herbert, Post Office senior stakeholder manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this area of Canvey and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

The move is part of a three-year investment programme by the Post Office which will see around 6,000 branches converted to new-style facilities.

The newly revamped branch was officially opened by Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris last Friday.
