SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is mulling over whether or not to make changes to his team at Bradford City tomorrow.
The Blues boss has the fit again Noel Hunt, Michael Timlin and Gary Deegan all pushing for starts.
But Brown has not yet decided whether or not the current team, who had gone five games without losing before the 2-0 defeat against Millwall on Tuesday, needs to be altered.
“If you look at the three league games before the JPT, the players who were called upon have been outstanding so I’m facing some difficult decisions,” said Brown.
“I need to pick a team that is clever enough to cause Bradford problems but that is also strong enough to understand what the game is going to be like.
“Fingers crossed I’ll get that right and we’ll come away with something from a difficult game.”
Tomorrow’s clash, which is a repeat of Brown’s first ever match in charge of Blues, also sees the Southend boss go head to head with two familiar faces in the opposite dug-out.
Brown worked with Bradford manager Phil Parkinson and his assistant Steve Parkin at Hull City.
And he hopes to be the one enjoying their reunion this weekend.
“Phil and Steve will have done their home-work on us and they obviously know me quite well too,” said Brown.
“Phil was here watching us on Tuesday night and he witnessed us lose 2-0 to Millwall despite us playing some good football at time.
“What his opinion of us before the game is I’m not too worried but I certainly will be after the game.
“I’ll be sharing a bottle of wine with him then too but hopefully I’ll be the one with three points to make it taste even better for me.”
Blues will still be without Anthony Wordsworth (ankle), Myles Weston (Achilles) and Stephen McLaughlin (foot) and goalkeeper Ted Smith has now joined on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury in training, “Ted’s strained an adductor muscle striking a ball,” said Brown.
“He’s been playing in the under 21s, he’s been preparing for all the first team matches and also been away with England under 20s.
“But he will be out for two to three weeks now so Josh Bexon has come in to the squad from the youth team as Paul Smith is also out with a back problem.”
