MATT Southgate secured his biggest ever European Tour prize as he pocketed almost 30,000 euros in the Shenzhen International.
The Thorpe Bay Golf Club member tied in 19th place, as he finished six under par and 10 shots behind the winner, South Korea’s Lee Soomin.
The win is a landmark one for Southgate, who made the cut for just the second time this season after falling short in the last five tournaments.
Southgate pocketed 28, 848 euros for his round of 282, with his second round of 67 bettered by just four above him in the final standings.
Further rounds of 69 and 72 followed, although it was his opening round of 74 which held him back with just one other competitor in the top 38 carding a higher score.
He sits 145th in the season ending Race to Dubai, for which the top 60 players qualify.
Basildon’s Daniel Brooks also made the cut and won 10, 144 euros for his effort as he finished in 51st place, as he closed on par 288. He is 81st in the Race to Dubai ahead of his appearance at this weekend’s Volvo China Open.
Richard McEvoy, also of Thorpe Bay Golf Club, failed to make the cut at the Shenzhen International after rounds of 73 and 77.
