Maidenhead United 2-2 Concord Rangers
From York Road
National League South
CONCORD Rangers secured a top 10 finish in the National League South for the third consecutive season after coming from behind to secure a point against Maidenhead United.
Ben Greenhalgh’s double was enough for a share of the spoils against Maidenhead, who finished the season an impressive seventh, in what has been a solid first season for manager Adam Flanagan.
The away side started well and could have had the lead inside the first five minutes when Steve Cawley broke through but was kept out by Carl Pentney.
And the home team took the lead with their first clear cut chance of the afternoon. A rare error from goalkeeper Ben McNamara, who spilled a low cross, saw the ball drop to Dave Tarpey and he tapped home.
Concord responded, with captain James White forcing another save from Pentney but they did level on the half hour mark.
The ball dropped to Greenhalgh in the box and he struck past the keeper.
The Beach Boys were on top, with Lewis Taaffe’s header well saved by Pentney but it was Maidenhead who ended the half the stronger.
Ben Wright hit the crossbar before Dean Inman scored from close range on the half time whistle.
The second half was a tighter affair, with Concord forcing the equaliser 10 minutes after the interval.
And it was a terrific goal as Greenhalgh, who has had an excellent season, cut inside and bent a delightful effort beyond the dive of the keeper.
It was the hosts who ended the game the stronger but Concord held firm to earn a point.
Concord Rangers: McNamara, Hammond, Stephen, Dowie (Cornhill), King, Lampe, Taaffe, White, Greenhalgh, Cawley (Topley), Collins (Carlos)
