CRAIG Edwards has blamed broken promises on his reason to resign as manager of Billericay Town.
Edwards handed in his resignation this evening after seven years at the helm.
Owner Glenn Tamplin has taken over as caretaker manager and will be in the dugout for the trip to Harlow Town on Saturday.
Following his resignation, Edwards wrote a statement which thanks the club and confirms that broken promises played a major part in his decision to step down.
The statement read: "I have today resigned as manager of Billericay Town Football Club.
"After Tuesday's game at Enfield I was informed by our chairman Dan Groves that owner Glenn Tamplin has decided that we were to be joint managers and that I would continue to run the under-21s on full pay. Promises have been broken and I found this wholly unacceptable. Only a couple of hours after I resigned Glenn put himself in the hot seat already.
"I'd like to thank everyone at the club for seven largely enjoyable and successful seasons. There are too many good people at the club to mention but thank you all for the support, help and friendship you have always given to me and my staff.
"This season has been a rollercoaster building a new young side that were fifth in the league at the time of the takeover and that many supporters rated the best since our league winning side. After
this, signing twelve players in a couple of weeks saw a dismal run of three draws and five defeats in which Glenn was big enough to accept responsibility for and we dropped to 17th in the table. I firmly believe without the mid-season blip we'd have had a great chance of being champions again.
"As it is we have built a new side, turned it around again and have lost just one of the last ten with seven big wins. We are in the League Cup Final and seven points clear in the Ryman Development League with it as good as won.
"We currently have a fantastic and incredibly talented set of lads that have been a pleasure to work with. Glenn still sees the play-offs this season as a reality and I'm sure if the team don't manage that they will romp the league next season.
"It's sad to be going at a time with the club on the up and massive improvements to the ground and players coming in. I'm sure the club has a very rosy future and on behalf of Rambo, Fids and myself I wish you every success."
