CONCORD Rangers manager Adam Flanagan says it was the right decision to call off their National League South encounter with Truro City yesterday lunchtime.

An early decision was made to postpone the Beach Boys’ re-arranged trip to Cornwall, following the postponement of the original match six weeks ago.

The team had reached Exeter before news of the postponement filtered through last time around.

And with freezing temperatures sweeping the country this week, Flanagan says a sensible decision was made by the club.

“The team and myself want to play football matches so while the journey is a round trip of more than 600 miles it’s something we had prepared ourselves for twice now,” he said.

“In light of the information concerning the adverse weather conditions that the UK and especially the south are expecting to receive, then I think the club have made a sensible decision. The safety of both sets of players, staff and fans getting to and from the game has to be the priority.

“We will look to train but, again, that will be dependent on the amount of snow we have and the ease and safety of the players being able to travel, which I think will be the biggest hurdle.”

Amber weather warnings are in place across large parts of the country, with the threat of severe snowfall.

The weather is expected to have a significant effect on sports fixtures and travel networks in the next few days and chairman Antony Smith said the match meant little ‘when compared to life’.

“The health and safety of our fans, players and officials must take priority in this situation, and the decision to postpone the game this early is the right one for all concerned,” said Smith. “Ultimately, points and cost mean nothing when compared to life.”

Concord are now liaising with the National League and Truro City in an effort to make a decision regarding a rearranged date for this fixture as soon as possible.
