SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Ted Smith has undergone surgery on a shoulder injury.
The 22-year-old has been sidelined since September.
And Blues boss Chris Powell confirmed the shot-stopper had now gone under the knife in a bid to regain full fitness.
“Ted’s had an operation now,” said Powell.
“He’s got to protect the area but I believe it’s been successful which is good.
“We have to take our time with him because shoulders for goalkeepers are key.
“Lets hope he will be OK but it will take a few months.
“He will take his time over the next six to eight weeks and we’ll see where he is then but we need him to take his time.
“He’s been out a while but he’s a very talented goalkeeper who everyone has high hopes for.
"We want a fit and healthy Ted Smith back, it doesn’t matter when that is and we will make sure we will support him.”
