SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Ted Smith is closing in on a return from injury.
Smith has been out of action for the past 13 months with a shoulder problem.
But Blues boss Chris Powell expects the shot-stopper to be back in action before the end of the month.
“Ted is looking good and he’s now diving again,” said Powell.
“We’ve got a date in mind when we expect to see him and he’s a good keeper from what I’ve seen.
“I saw him at AFC Wimbledon a couple of years ago when we won 2-0 and I was impressed with him on the day so I’m looking forward to seeing him.
“I don’t want to say when exactly it will be but I’m hoping he will be involved in an under-23 game or a friendly by the end of October.”
