SOUTHEND United will be going on a pre-season tour of Scotland.

Blues will be based in Stirling for a five-day training camp.

And they will also be taking part in a two-day tournament which is taken place at East Fife’s Bayview Stadium.

Fife’s fellow Division One sides Raith Rovers and Dundee will also be taking part over the weekend on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.

Full match details have yet to be confirmed but Southend manager Paul Sturrock is pleased to have got the tour sorted.

“The facilities at the proposed venue are first class and will hopefully help ensure that we get the right levels of fitness into the squad so we avoid the problems we saw this season, where we picked up numerous injuries due to a lack of a proper pre-season,” said Sturrock “There are also the benefits of bonding as a team and ensuring there is a team spirit with new players coming in this summer.

“I've no doubt the fans will also enjoy the weekend and the proposed games should offer the team a good workout combined with those friendlies we will be holding back home.”

Blues have confirmed that they will send a side to Great Wakering Rovers’ Burroughs Park home on Tuesday, July 12, for a friendly that kicks off at 7.45pm.

More games are expected to be announced soon.
