SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has confirmed the club will only listen to “considerably improved” offers for defender Ryan Cresswell.

Echosport yesterday revealed how Fleetwood Town had a £50,000 bid for the centre-back turned down while Chesterfield are also believed to be monitoring the situation.

However, Brown admitted Blues were not keen to offload Cresswell and would certainly not allow him to leave on the cheap.

“Ryan is still under contract with and it would have to take a considerably improved offer to get him to leave the clubs on our terms,” said Brown.

Fleetwood are expected to return with an improved offer for the 25-year-old who could well be interested in a return to his native north.

But it is not just Cresswell who is attracting attention from other clubs as right-back Sean Clohessy is also facing an uncertain future at Roots Hall.

“We have had a lot of interest in the two players in the PFA awards team (Clohessy and Cresswell) and understandably so,” said Brown.

“We’re trying to re-sign one of them and one is still under contract with us.”

Cresswell has been with Blues for just one season and scored eight goals in 54 games during an impressive campaign.

Clohessy, 26, joined the Shrimpers on a free transfer in July 2010 and has since made 166 appearances for the club.

The former Arsenal trainee broke a club record by playing all 59 matches for Southend last season and was voted player of the year by the club’s supporters.
