SOUTHEND United’s first pre-season friendly ended in a 2-0 defeat at Dartford last night.
Blues, who kept their line-up a secret from those in attendance, did begin brightly with new signing Sofiene Zaaboub striking the crossbar after just three minutes.
Harry Crawford was also denied by Dartford keeper Deren Ibrahim but the home-side gained control in the second half.
Subsequently, the Blue Square South newcomers opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Danny Harris burst into the box before teeing up Ryan Hayes who made no mistake with an assured close range finish.
Dartford then made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute with Adam Burchell tapping home from close range.
