YOUNG mathematicians at St Hilda's School, Westcliff, put their heads together to design, make, play and evaluate an original numeracy game.
The numeracy day competition presented the primary pupils with a challenge to take a board, playground or card game and create a numeracy game that would help players learn times tables and recognise numbers.
Infant and junior school director of studies, Gillian Newton, said: "There were some fantastic ideas for games, including code-breaking, number Scrabble and a very inventive playground game which combined physical exercise with number recognition.
"Both pupils and staff had a fantastic day. Pupils worked well in pairs and had fun playing each others games."
The school is planning a fun with literacy day for next term.
