THE Swinging Blue Jeans – a pop band which stormed the charts with some of the most famous songs from the Sixties – are coming to Basildon.
Chart hits such as the Hippy Hippy Shake, Good Golly Miss Molly and You’re No Good will be among their reportoire at the Towngate Theatre on Friday, October 25.
Despite several changes to the line-up, the Swinging Blue Jeans are still going strong, having originally signed to HMV Records in 1962.
They were originally founded by Ray Ennis and Les Braid, who died in 2005. Until May 2010, when he made the decision to retire, the Swinging Blue Jeans still featured Ennis on lead, rhythm guitar and vocals, with Phil Thompson on drums and Alan Lovell on lead guitar and vocals.
Lovell still fronts the band today, with Peter Oakman on bass and vocals, alongside Jeff Bannister on keyboards, guitar and vocals, and Graham Hollingworth on drums.
Tickets for the show, which is being held in the Mirren Studio at the theatre, in St Martin’s Square, cost £12.50.
