THE Mercury Theatre is looking for people to contribute to a new exhibition about what is right and wrong.
The Only Way is Ethics, celebrating the written word, will be running alongside the Colchester theatre’s productions of Bertolt Brecht’s the Good Person of Sichuan, written in 1943, and Manfred Karge’s Man to Man, written in 1987.
But the theatre is looking for your help by contributing to a special exhibition – Painted Words – to take place in the Mercury Theatre’s foyer.
The Only Way is Ethics, from October 3 to 19, will look at the issues around poverty, wealth and corruption which run through the plays.
Festival curator Chris Hallam says: “The two plays raise important questions about choice and how people get by when times are tough. We will take those ideas and use them to create other performances, art work and poems, so audiences can find different ways to join in with the debate.”
Chris says: “Painted Words is an exhibition of written words. People can describe a picture they have in their mind. “It can be dramatic, simple, factual or a fantasy. It should be no longer than one side of A4 paper.”
E-mail your Painted Words to artistic.director@mercurytheatre.co.uk or post it to Chris Hallam, Mercury Theatre, Balkerne Gate, Colchester, CO1 1PT. Include your name, address, and contact number. The closing date is September 13. More information is available at mercurytheatre.co.uk
