Death Notice

Marietta Doula Young

Published on 22/02/2013

Mrs. Marietta "Doula" YOUNG Marietta Young passed away from pneumonia on 10th Ferbuary 2013. The illness was mercifully brief and ended a fulfilling life of 90 years. Born the daughter of a Greek ship's engineer and English china painter, this odd match bestowed upon her an exotic beauty that attracted the attentions of Capt. William Allan Young MBE, whom she married during WW2. Soon after they emigrated, first to South Africa, and then in 1950 to the USA, returning to the UK some ten years later. Though she and Allan there after lived in Leigh, they travelled widely throughout Europe and the World. She also enjoyed frequent visits to their Son, his Wife, and her two Grandchildren in Louisiana, USA. Doula was the proverbial "life and soul" of the party, a very social person who loved to talk and banter with others. She made her home a hospitable place where all were welcomed and could be assured bountiful food and drink. While Allan worked she ensured a warm, loving environment for her Husband and Son. Shortly after the death of her Husband in 2006 she retired to a rest home where she remained happily until her death, mentally sharp and social as ever. She is survived by her only Son and two Granddaughters. Funeral to take place on 27th February 11.40am at Southend Crematorium. Donations in lieu of flowers please to Help The Aged, her favourite charity. Memorial reception immediatelty following at the Roslin Hotel. Enquiries c/o W. Thorp & Son, 62 Broadway, Leigh on Sea 01702 476323
