CALLOUS burglars stamped and kicked on a 92-year-old woman in a vicious attack in her own home.
Police have appealed for information about the incident which happened in Southend yesterday morning.
The victim was in bed at her home in Prince Avenue when she was woken by noises in her kitchen in the early hours.
She went to investigate and confronted an intruder but in a struggle with him she was assaulted and fell to the ground. The man then stamped on her hands and kicked her.
The woman believes that she heard several people searching upstairs rooms before she became unconscious.
She came round at about 4am and pressed a panic alarm to call for assistance but the woman is not sure how long she was unconscious for.
She was taken to Southend Hospital where she is still receiving treatment for her hand injuries.
A handbag, several items of jewellery and bank cards were stolen.
Police have not been able to take full details from the victim while she receives hospital treatment and it is still not clear exactly when the burglary happened.
However, anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area of the woman’s home, which is near to Tescos, should contact Pc Chris Martin at Southend CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
Two boys aged 15 and a man aged 20, all from the Southend area, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and were bailed until September 17 pending further enquiries.
