POLICE have made another arrest after a man was left fighting for his life after being stabbed in Southend.

Police originally arrested four people from Southend on Monday – three men and a woman – after the late-night attack in Victoria Road.

The woman, in her twenties, was released without charge hours later.

A 22-year-old man from Southend was arrested and was questioned about the incident in on Sunday, August 11.

He, along with the three men previously arrested in connection with the investigation, aged 23, 22, and 24, have been bailed until December 6.

Officers were called to the area just after 11pm on Sunday after the 55-year-old victim, who lives in the area, was found lying in the road with serious injuries. Police believe he was the victim of an attempted robbery as he walked home from a night out in Marine Parade.

He was initially taken to Southend Hospital before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital where he remains in a stable but serious condition after being stabbed several times.

Police set up cordons across a huge area encompassing the section of Victoria Road between Northumberland Avenue and Woodgrange Drive as well as outside Fortune Steps on the Kursaal estate.

Police say they particularly want to speak to any witnesses in Victoria Road, Manilla Road or Arnold Avenue as they believe the attempted robbery happened in one of those roads.

Any witnesses to the stabbing are urged to call detectives at Southend CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800555111.
