A HOST of good causes are set to benefit from more than £7,000 raised at this year’s Summerfest in Billericay.
The annual event organised by Billericay Mayflower Rotary Club pulled in crowds in their thousands to Sun Corner, in Laindon Road. Highlights on the day included a dog display show, marching bands, dance groups, livemusic and a classic car display.
Mayflower Rotarian Colin Breathwick, who led the club’s organising team, said: “We had enjoyed the pleasure of seeing thousands of local people out for the day, enjoying a major local event.
“Now the money has been counted and the bills paid, this has proved to be the icing on the cake. We are grateful for the generosity of people who contributed to a whole host of good causes. It made the long months of preparation and hard work over the SummerFest weekend all worthwhile.” The majority of the proceeds from this year’s event will go to the club’s charity fund for its Essex Thriftwood School project that is already giving a helping hand to the new sixth form for students with learning disabilities.
Cash will also be donated to St John’s Ambulance, 4th Billericay Scouts and Billericay Rugby Club who helped to stage the popular event. The Mayflower Rotarians are now working on their next annual major event, Billericay Christmas Market on December 1, when once more residents and traders will take over the High Street for a day of festive fun.
