A ROAD which has been without street lights for more than a year will finally be back in the spotlight as work is completed in the next few weeks.
Residents on Lee Walk, in Laindon, have faced walking in the dark to their homes for 14 months since Essex County Council removed unsafe and damaged street lights.
They were eventually replaced in April, but have still not been switched on.
Lawrence Harris, 84, who lives on the street, said some elderly residents were scared to leave their homes at night.
Now UK Power Network will carry out work in the next three weeks after being instructed by the council.
Kerry Smith, Ukip councilor for the area, joined the Echo in calling for the work to be carried out. Mr Smith said: “I am pleased that the council has assured me this work will be carried out and residents won’t have to come in and out of their houses with ý About flashlights.”
