Police officers are investigating after a robbery at a bank in Westcliff this morning.
VIDEO: The scene at the bank this afternoon
Around 10am a man went into Lloyds Bank in London Road and passed a note to staff demanding money. He said that he had a gun, but no weapon was seen. He was passed a four figure sum of cash and left the bank.
A note on the door apologises to customers for being closed and points them to the nearest branch.
The man is described as in his 60s about 5ft 6-8ins tall with grey hair and facial stubble. He was slim build and wearing a grey/green anorak and carrying two carrier bags.
Police are speaking to witnesses, staff and reviewing CCTV. Anyone who was in the area and saw the man before or after the incident is asked to contact CID at Southend Police station on 101.
