A TEENAGE boy was arrested by police on suspicion of trying to sell cocaine to revellers at the V Festival.

The 13-year-old, from Basildon, was caught by officers after a police sniffer dog singled him out at the festival, which was held at Chelmford’s Hylands Park at the weekend.

He was the youngest of the 114 people to be arrested at the two day festival, and was caught during a routine stop check after the sniffer dogs got a whiff of the Class A drug.

He was searched by officers, who found cocaine concealed on him, and was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

He has been bailed until November while tests are carried out on the suspected drugs and police continue to investigate.

The offence carries a maximum of life imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine if dealt with at a crown court, and a maximum of a £5,000 fine and six months imprisonment if dealt with at a magistrates’ court.

To be arrested on suspicion of that particular offence, a person must be found with not only a large quantity of a drugs, but also that the substance appears it is likely to be sold on, for example by being divided into “wraps”.

Police were out in force at the V Festival in a bid to stamp out crime at the event.

The 114 arrests over the weekend, included 22 for drug dealing and 75 for drugs possession.

Also among those arrested was 23-year-old Joshua Chaplin, a financial broker from Forest Glade, Langdon Hills.

He was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

He will appear in court next month.
