A FACEBOOK page, which has been hacked by cyber bullies, has not been shut down by the social media giant, despite driving a teenager to the brink of suicide.

The Echo reported how internet trolls targeted Hannah Buckley, 16, of Kathleen Ferrier Crescent, Laindon.

They hacked her e-mail account and her Facebook page and have been posting sick and abusive messages about the teen, as well as sending nasty e-mails, purporting to be from her, to her friends and family.

Police have been called in to investigate the harassment.

When the Echo contacted Facebook, it said the issue had been “resolved”.

However, the page is still active and continuing to cause distress to Hannah. Her mum, Sally, 46, said: “It’s very disappointing Facebook still hasn’t done anything about this page.

“We have repeatedlymade complaints about the abuse and the hacking of Hannah’s page, but it has done nothing.”

Sally said, following the Echo’s coverage of Hannah’s ordeal, she had been approached by an IT expert who has offered to help.

Hannah’s ordeal began last Winter when she fell out with another girl.

The James Hornsby pupil began receiving abusive e-mails and hundreds of friend requests through Facebook.

The spiteful e-mails called her vile names and made other nasty comments. As a result, two 15- year-old girls were served with harassment warnings by police.

However, two weeks ago the abuse resurfaced and Hannah was pushed to the brink of suicide.

People have been commenting on the story on the Echo website echo-news.co.uk Kim Gandy said: “Farcebook and Twitter are twin evils.

Personally I wouldn't touch either with a bargepole. Both are infested with nutters and trolls.”

Another user said: “People – especially the young and vulnerable – should be able to feel safe from abuse wherever they are.

There should be no distinction between the real and online worlds when it comes to the enforcement of the law.”
