HEALTH minister Dr Dan Poulter is due to visit Southend Hospital’s new pregnancy suite.
The creation of the ward, for pregnant women experiencing problems, means they are now away from the main delivery ward so they can be scanned, assessed and, if necessary, receive counselling in privacy.
A redundant side room was converted using an £88,500 Department of Health grant.
The money also helped create a maternity triage service on the hospital’s central delivery suite to ensure women in labour were seen promptly and received the best care.
Dr Poulter is due to open the suite on Thursday.
