A ROAD has become so blighted by potholes it is to feature in a Channel 5 documentary.

Kingston Ridge Campsite’s owners claim potholes in Lee Chapel Lane, Laindon, were so bad after last fortnight’s torrential downpours the company had to fix the road itself, so vehicles could get through.

The Echo reported on problems with the road early last month.

Now a film crew from Channel 5 has filmed the extent of a damage for a documentary, due to be broadcast this week.

However Essex County Council says it has looked at the road and insists there is not a problem with it.

Ron Acton, from the campsite said the road was becoming a real danger.

He said: “It’s a terrible problem. This is the only way in and out of our campsite. You can only negotiate the road in a vehicle with extreme care.

“We have been repairing the road ourselves for a while, but last fortnight’s torrential downpour washed all the shingle we used to fill the holes with into the ditches.

“We closed the camp for the rest of the summer at the weekend and before we could leave, we had to repair the road yet again.

“Channel 5 arrived on Friday to do some filming which was really good. We just hope the council will repair this road.”

An Essex County Council spokesman said: “During the inspection, no issues meeting our investigatory criteria were recorded and, therefore, we would not look to carry out any remedial work in this road in the near future.

“We will continue to monitor this road and any deterioration will be recorded and assessed.

This, therefore was not considered for the resurfacing programme.”
