HE’S not the Devil in Disguise. Quite the opposite, in fact, as this Elvis impersonator is a man of God.

The Rev Andy Kelso, 65, traded his dog collar for a Hound Dog and robes for the superstar’s trademark bejewelled white jumpsuit in 2009.

He said he received a call from God to entertain the masses and thought It’s Now or Never.

“After I stopped being a vicar, I used to pray to God every day for 18 months, while walking through the woods with my dog,” he says.

“I would say ‘please Lord, tell me what you want me to do’.

“One day I stopped in my tracks and this idea came to me.

“I had grown up singing and performing and had always been a fan of Elvis.

“My friends said go for it.”

Andy had been a vicar for 25 years in churches in Great Yarmouth and Norwich, before switching pews for performances.

But there will be no Crying in the Chapel, because Andy is not only touring his show around the country, but is still involved with the church.

He takes his act to church fundraisers and is chaplain for sports teams such as rugby’s Worcester Warriors.

Andy is now set to perform live at Hadleigh Methodist Church’s buffet show on Saturday.

The show, which starts at 6.30pm, will include food and refreshments.

The Rev Elvis will be performing the King’s classic songs, spanning his incredible career.

“Elvis never lost his gospel roots. It meant a lot to him and you can hear that in his performances,” says Andy.

“He was one of the greatest singers and entertainers and was very misunderstood.

“I try and put people right about that in between songs.”

Andy’s performances have taken him around the country and will later this year see him performing in troubled parts of Belfast, in Northern Ireland.

“I was contacted and asked to perform,” he says.

“I never thought I would become a peacemaker as Elvis, but I guess everyone has him in common.”

Andy’s story got the national press All Shook Up and his career change hit the headlines four years ago.

He even appeared on national TV on the Rob Brydon Show.

Andy adds: “I still get pre-show nerves and I don’t think you ever lose that. It’s the same nerves that caused Elvis to experience the highs and lows towards the end.

“I am up there on my own without a backing band.

“And I’m performing 30 songs a set.”
