A POLICE officer and two other people were assaulted in a Southend street.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested over the incident, which took place on Monday, at 5.40pm in Southchurch Avenue.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said: “I saw a guy who looked like he was drunk. He was walking in front of cars looking like he was trying to fight the traffic.

“Then he walked towards a house, and there was a lot of screaming.

“He was with a group of kids, and he was sort of waving his fist around at some other kids and their parents took them into the house. “I didn’t see too much of what happened, but someone said to me afterwards – ‘Did you see him hit the guy in the wheelchair?’”

A worker at a nearby business, said: “There was a lot of shouting.”
