FURIOUS town councillors slammed a request from Castle Point Council they should take over the management of flower beds.
At a meeting of Canvey Town Council’s environment committee, councillors said they were fed up with being given extra responsibility by Castle Point Council without any extra cash to pay for it.
The angry comments followed a request from Castle Point Council for the town council to take over the management of 13 flower planters outside Castle View School, in Foksville Road.
Chairman of the committee, John Anderson, said: “It is just another thing Castle Point don’t want to look after.
“They say you have it, so you look after it, but they do not give us any extra money to take on the responsibility. It isashame.”
Councillor Peter May added: “The people of Canvey pay a precept in their council tax for us to spend money improving things.
“These are 13 planters Castle PointCouncil hasput it. It is upto Castle Point to maintain them.”
The council rejected Castle Point’s request to take over management of the flower beds
