A MAN from Southend has become a key figure in the group campaigning for Scottish indepencence.

Ian Dommett, 50, who moved to Scotland in the mid-Eighties, is director of marketing for Yes Scotland, which wants a yes vote in the independence referendum next September.

He took an interest in Scottish politics after the reconvening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999, and his marketing company played a vital role in the Scottish National Party’s victory in 2011.

He said: “Like most people in Scotland, I’m excited about the prospect of a Scottish Parliament bringing Scottish solutions to the areas it doesn’t currently have control over.”
