A WOMAN fought off a would-be robber who attacked her in broad daylight in Westcliff this morning.
The 42-year-old victim was in the alley which runs from The Ridgeway to Chalkwell Avenue at about 8.20am when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her around the neck, and tried to pull her bag from her.
The woman, who is from Leigh, stamped on his foot before elbowing him in the stomach and face.
The suspect then ran away empty-handed towards Chalkwell Avenue.
He is described as black, aged 18 to 25, 5ft 10ins tall and of a very thin build. He was wearing a red baseball cap, black hooded top, black jeans and black trainers.
Investigating officer, Pc Mike Latham, said: "I doubt the suspect will be boasting about such a cowardly attack and being put in his place, so I really need anyone who was in the area and noticed anything suspicious to come forward. "
Anyone with information is urged to contact Pc Latham, or his colleagues at Southend, on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
