THE shock of a nasty knife-point robbery caused a 63-year-old man to pass out and not regain consciousness until the morning after he was attacked.
Detectives are urging members of the public to come forward with information following the attack in Prince Avenue, Westcliff.
The 63-year-old victim was near to the junction with Queen Anne’s Drive, between 10pm and 10.30pm last night when he was approached by two men armed with knives.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said they stole his bank card, iPhone, some cash and also attacked him.
She said: “He lost consciousness and came round the following morning in a bush near to the Tesco store.”
Police were alerted to the violent attack after the victim managed to make his way to the supermarket and officers were called.
The man, who is from the Southend area, suffered three puncture wounds to his right arm. He was taken to Southend Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The force spokeswoman added it was later discovered his bank card had been used to make cash withdrawals in Rochford, Benfleet, and London.
The suspects are described as two black men, who were tall and wore hankerchiefs over their mouths.
Investigating officer, Det Sgt Steve Franklin, said: “It must have been very distressing for the victim when he regained consciousness the following morning, to find he had spent the night alone outside after being attacked.
“This is a really busy dual carriageway and I would strongly urge motorists to cast their minds back to whether they saw anything suspicious in the area on Saturday night into Sunday morning.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Southend CID on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
