A LANDLORD whose pub was swamped by last month’s flash flood has been dealt a second blow –a burglary in which cash, computers and jewellery were stolen.

Danny Murley is still clearing up at the Horse and Groom, in Southend Road, Rochford, after the ground floor was hit by 5ft of flood water on August 24.

The flooding did £80,000 of damage.

Now he is also counting the cost of a break-in on Monday, in which hundreds of pounds, plus jewellery and laptop computers were taken from a flat above the pub.

Mr Murley, 63, who lives there with his twins Rachael and Alex, 16, said: “It’s terrible. We had enough trouble with the floods and now this break-in.

“We’ve had no cash flow for two weeks and now all my cash has been stolen. I’ve still got bills to pay

“They took petty cash and change from the till which would have usually been in the safe, but that’s been ruined.

“They also took my personal cash and about £500 my son had from his role as treasurer of a golf society.”

The thieves also stole treasured possessions, including Mr Murley’s daughter’s charm bracelet, which she has had since she was a baby. The haul included an Armani watch and bracelet, a wedding ring, dresses, an iPhone, hair straighteners, two laptops and two other watches The thieves used a ladder to climb through an open upstairs window while Mr Murley was out, at about 4pm.

The floods damaged the ground floor of the pub and its cellar, ruining £5,000 of alcohol and closing the pub for at least two months.
