GENEROUS food shoppers in Basildon are buying extra at the tills to give straight back to their supermarket.
Asda, in the Eastgate Centre and Pipps Hill, is collecting dry and tinned foods to give to hungry families on low incomes.
Paula Howard, from the Eastgate store, said: “We will carry on all through the winter because it will get harder for people, especially the elderly with their rising gas and electricity bills.”
Trollies full of food have already been donated to the food bank at Lee Chapel North Community Centre.
